Hair loss in men and women — a complete guide to regenerative treatment
What is androgenetic alopecia?
Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in both men and women. In men it typically presents as a receding hairline and thinning at the crown. In women it appears as diffuse thinning, mainly along the central parting. The main factor is the sensitivity of hair follicles to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which gradually shortens the hair growth cycle.
Not every follicle is lost — some are simply dormant
The difference between a dead follicle and a dormant one is critical. A dormant follicle is still alive; it has simply stopped producing hair under the influence of DHT. Regenerative treatment aims to reactivate these dormant follicles and return them to activity. Treatment suitability and outcomes vary from patient to patient.
Regenerative treatment for hair loss — how does it work?
Dr. Salvador Kaplan carries out a personal medical assessment before tailoring the treatment. During the procedure, a small amount of the patient's own fat tissue is harvested, processed and introduced into the scalp under local anaesthesia. Suitability for the procedure is determined after the medical assessment.
More information about the procedure is available on the regenerative treatment with autologous fat tissue page.
Who is a suitable candidate?
Regenerative treatment is suitable for men and women with early to moderate androgenetic alopecia. Dr. Salvador Kaplan assesses every patient individually before defining the appropriate protocol.
Main candidacy criteria:
- Active hair loss or advanced thinning
- Living follicles or follicles in early miniaturisation
- Treatment suitability is determined through an individual medical assessment and according to each patient’s condition.
- No medical contraindications
When are results seen?
The timing and progression of changes may vary between patients and depend on the initial condition and individual response to treatment. The aim is to support existing hair; the outcome varies from patient to patient.
Other treatment options
After the medical assessment, Dr. Kaplan may also suggest other options, such as PRP hair treatment, PRF and iPRF, scalp treatment or hair and scalp mesotherapy. The clinic also performs eyebrow transplants. All options are listed on the hair treatments page.
